Outline of tripod design group

As Environmental Design Studio S. Nakagawa Co., Ltd. (EDS) led by Satoshi Nakagawa could gain several partners well-established in management, research and planning/production fields, the tripod design group was established in April 2000. As a business group, the tripod design group strives for creating a totally new design industry offering inclusive solution including design research to understand users, actual product planning/design and sales activities.

Biography

1987
  • Established Environmental Design Studio S. Nakagawa Co., Ltd. (EDS), the prototype of tripod design Co., Ltd.
1993
  • Started the research and development of universal design technology and process.
1994
  • Started to develop the first product under the tripod brand "Handy Birdy".
1995
  • Registered the logo mark of tripod as a brand.
1998
  • Officially introduced the first product "Handy Birdy" under the tripod design brand, and started collaborating with many companies to pursue product development using the universal design process.
1999
  • Wrote and issued the book "Universal Design Solution".
  • "Handy Birdy" was adopted for the universal design booklet of the Center for Universal Design (CUD) Exampler.
  • "Handy Birdy" won the universal design award of American Society on Aging (ASA).
2000
  • Officially changed the company name from Environmental Design Studio S. Nakagawa Co., Ltd. to tripod design Co., Ltd.
2001
  • Established and registered tripod design, USA Inc. in New York.
  • Organized the first universal design exhibition "DESIGN FOR WHOM?" in Tokyo.
2002
  • Wrote, edited and issued the book "Textbook for Universal Design" published by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.
  • Started the first universal design-related television program (90-min.) on ASAHI NEWSTAR (Satellite Channels Inc.) CS channel with Koichi Baba, a producer.
2003
  • Completed and issued the book "tripod design".
  • Organized the first exhibition in USA "Universal Design by tripod" at the Japan Society in New York City.
